Universiti
Kebangsaan
Malaysia
(UKM),
was
established
on 18
May
1970, as
the only
national
university
in the
country
that
uses
Bahasa
Melayu
(Malay
language)
as the
medium
of
instruction.
With an
excellent
academic
environment,
modern
campus
facilities
and
campus
in park
concept,
UKM has
evolved
into one
of the
leading
universities
in the
region.
With
good
transportation
infrastructure
made up
of the
North-South
Highway,
KTM
Komuter
services,
and a
good
network
of bus
services,
the
campus
is
easily
accessible
to
students
and
visitors.
The
Bangi
campus
is also
close to
the
Kuala
Lumpur
International
Airport
(KLIA)
in
Sepang
making
the
University
even
closer
to
international
reach.
The
campus
is also
within
the
vicinity
of the
MSC
(Multimedia
Super
Corridor)
and very
near to
Putrajaya
and
Cyberjaya,
the two
constituent
deemed
to be
the
catalyst
for the
development
of
information
technology.
The main
campus
spans an
area of
about
1,096.29
hectares
located
in Bangi,
Selangor
Darul
Ehsan
approximately
35
kilometres
from
Kuala
Lumpur
city
centre.
The main
campus
houses
eight
faculties
and 12
institutes.
In
addition
UKM also
has a
Medical
Campus
in Kuala
Lumpur
with
four
faculties:
the
Faculty
of
Medicine
(Pre-clinical),
Faculty
of
Allied
Health
Sciences,
Faculty
of
Dentistry
and
Faculty
of
Pharmacy.
UKM also
has a
Medical
Centre (UKMMC)
located
in a
22.3
hectares
area in
Cheras,
Kuala
Lumpur.
UKMMC
consists
of a
hospital,
the
Faculty
of
Medicine
and the
Institute
of
Medical
Molecular
Research
(UMBI).
Based on
the
excellence
of its
multi-discipline
research
fields
for the
past
three
decades,
UKM has
been
chosen
as one
of the
Research
Universities
in
Malaysia.
That
position
is
further
enhanced
when a
national
and an
international
research
organisations
are
placed
in UKM,
namely
the
Malaysia
Genome
Institute
(MGI)
and the
International
Institute
of
Global
Health,
United
Nations
University.
UKM is
also a
recipient
of the
Prime
Minister
Quality
Award
2006.
The
award is
in
recognition
of its
excellent
achievements
in the
fields
of
academic
distinction
and
management.
With
these
strong
foundations,
UKM is
committed
to
uphold
the
standards
achieve
with its
slogan,

Nurturing
Possibility’.
UKM
offers
various
academic
programmes
in both
the arts
and
science
fields.
It
currently
has 13
faculties;
eight
located
in the
main
Bangi
campus.
The
Faculty
of
Allied
Health
Sciences,
Faculty
of
Pharmacy
and
Faculty
of
Dentistry
are
located
in the
Kuala
Lumpur
campus
while
the
Faculty
of
Medicine
is in
Cheras
campus.
At the
undergraduate
level,
the
University
offers
multiple
fields
of
courses,
including
Bachelor
of
Science,
Bachelor
of Arts,
Bachelor
of
Social
Sciences,
Bachelor
of
Business
Administration,
Bachelor
of
Economics,
Bachelor
of
Information
Technology,
Bachelor
of
Accountancy,
Bachelor
of
Educational
Sciences,
Bachelor
of
Engineering,
Bachelor
of Law,
Bachelors
under
the
programmes
of
Allied
Health,
Medical
Doctor,
Dental
Surgery
Doctor,
Bachelor

Studies.
More new
programmes
are
expected
to be
introduced
in
future
to give
students
a wider
choice
of study
while
strengthening
the
academic
programmes
in UKM.
